Starting a healthier lifestyle | a guest post by Kimberly from Raising Rome and Rio

Sometime I love to give my small stage to my fellow mom bloggers and hear other stories than mine. This is the case today and I am glad to host Kimberly from the family blog Raising Rome and Rio. Kimberly is committed to allow her family to have a healthy lifestyle and she constantly researches ways to do so. I asked her to write a post and address parents who are inspired to make the same resolution, but don’t know where to start.

I’m so happy you chose to read this blog post about how to live a life of health and wellness. This lifestyle can be overwhelming for anyone on the outside looking in, but what if I told you it’s easier then you think?

My name is Kimberly. I am a wife and a mother of 2 sweet boys. Rome,3 and Rio,1. I am a full time mom that works 2 days a week as a hairstylist. I also have my side business as a Young Living Distributor, which in the future will allow me to a permanent stay at home mom.

With this post, I hope to encourage you to rethink your current lifestyle. Our everyday choices play a big role in our quality of life. It is never too late to start making better and healthier choices. Now is the perfect time. I’m writing this to help you get to where you want to be, step by step.

1. Question everything

This step is very difficult. I’m asking you to forget everything you think you know. Forget everything you think is safe. Forget everything you think is bad. If you can question everything, then anything is possible. When you can come to the idea that not everything is what it seems to be, you are allowing yourself to be open to change.

2. Research

This is the next obvious step here. When everything is in question, how are you to know what’s good and what’s not? What’s safe and what’s not? I can’t tell people enough, research whatever you want to know. We have a wealth of information available to us that most of us never take the time to actually look at. We have access to definitions, data and studies. All we have to do is research. This step takes time, but anything that is worth knowing, is worth your time. In the end, you will be more knowledgeable about why you make the better choices you do.

3. Apply

Once you understand why certain chemicals in your laundry detergent are harmful or why  GMOs are dangerous, you are able to easily switch to healthier living. Just like that. Personally, I was so disgusted with what was allowed to be put on our shelves and labeled as food that I had no problem at all switching to buying only organic. I had no qualms switching laundry detergents or throwing away my candles after learning they contain toxic chemicals that jeopardize the health of my family. Knowledge is power! Especially when it comes to consumers. We as consumers have the power to change everything for the better.

Like I said before, there is no better time then now. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Are you running out of a cleaning product? Before you go buy that same bottle, look at the ingredients, look up the side effects of those ingredients. Is this product banned in other countries? Why? These are the questions that lead to healthier living. Its easier then you think. If you get there using baby steps, that’s better then not getting there at all. You and your family are worth it.

Personally, I will start simple. I’ve always wanted to completely switch to ecological and non-toxic laundry detergents and I think I will commit to that this year. What healthier choices did you make for your family? Any recommendation, suggestion, or comment? Drop me a line below in the comment section, I would love to hear from other parents on this.
